The Robinhood Project: Giving Thanks with the Boys Club of New York

25th November, 2020

Thanksgiving is a time when many in the United States gather with family and friends to give thanks for each other and the ability to huddle around the table for a meal that leaves most seeking their next fitness challenge!

This year, however, COVID-19 has not only shifted the ability to gather with friends and family, but it has impacted hundreds of thousands of families across the United States. Many of these families reside in the boroughs of New York, not all that far from the Options New York office.

Options’ Robinhood Project started earlier this year with a mandate of supporting frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19, but as the year and the pandemic have evolved, so too have the efforts of the Robinhood Project.

Historically the Boys Club of New York (BCNY) has been a place where New York’s inner and outer city youth can find friendship, mentorship, and assistance with both education and basic necessities many take for granted. Several years ago, the BCNY began hosting a Thanksgiving drive, to provide as many families as possible with a full, traditional Thanksgiving dinner inclusive of a turkey and several sides. Over the years, the drive has grown in success, and in 2020 the BCNY set their sights at providing meals for 1,500 families across New York.

Options began supporting the annual BCNY effort in 2019 by volunteering at their 2019 Thanksgiving Turkey Drive event and continued their support in 2020, providing $5,000 toward Thanksgiving provisions through the Robinhood Project. When the drive’s donation window closed for 2020, the BCNY had raised enough to feed 2,100 families, well above the set target!

Helping the community, front line workers, and those who are less fortunate is something Options strongly believes in. To date, the Options Robinhood Project has raised over $250,000 through grassroots fundraising efforts. It has been providing meals, donations and assistance to those who needed it around the globe, including approximately 2,500 meals to frontline workers in the New York and New Jersey areas. The project has helped those on the frontline at Maimonides Medical Center, Mount Sinai, Bellevue Hospital, St. John’s Riverside Hospital, NYU Langone, Englewood Hospital, Long Island Jewish Hospital (LIJ), Virtua Vorhees Hospital and the NYPD/FDNY (51st Street) beside the Options NYC office.

We wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving, from the Options family to yours.
